Croft race - 20 Feb

Just come back from Croft where quite a few Cliftonites were racing. One guy had a crash and was taken away in an ambulance. Hope he's not too bad and will be on the bike soon.

Tim J, me and Dave Cook were there - Dave came off on one of the corners about four laps into the race. He's been kept in hospital in Darlington for observation (suspected concussion) and sorting out stitching up a rather nasty wound where he landed on his eyebrow. Hopefully nothing worse than that - will post when I know more.

An update and a proper report:-
Dave's due back home later today. He was kept in longer than expected pending getting his wound properly repaired. No bones broken and hopefully no lasting damage - he was texting me yesterday wanting to know where his BC race licence was so I suspect he'll live to fight another day....
The race itself was my first at Croft. I'd done a circuit race before (at Hetton) but it was very different - Croft is pretty flat and with wide open expanses of tarmac which encourage keeping the speeds high. However on the fast, sweeping corners everyone wanted to be in the same place at the same time, and there was some very rusty riding going on. All of which made it a bit of a nervous race. No-one managed to get away; Tim and I spent as much time up near the front as we could - where it was a bit less congested - but when it came down to a bunch for the final lap it spelt trouble. Sure enough the final coming-together at the back straight chicane had riders on the grass, on the rumble strips and stood on one wheel. I'd foolishly let myself get buried in the bunch and hence emerged from the chicane in about fortieth place; a lengthy sprint through the masses still only got me about twentieth - not much use with points only to tenth!
Well done to likemybike for getting it all set up - nice to see BC responding to the shortage of events on the calendar.
PS:- Well done to mentinknap for his fourth place, and say hello next time we're racing together - I still haven't worked out which of the Malton crew you are!

Thanks for the update Phil, I tried to call his mobile today and it seemed to be switched off which made me feel that he was having an extended stay in hospital so I am glad he did not sustain any broken bones etc, hopefully he will be back on his bike soon.

Thanks to all for your concern. I am luckily ok except for some cuts on my face, black eye and a bit of normal road rash. I was concussed so I had to stay in hospital for observation/xrays/sort out cuts on face, which all turned out fine.
A special thanks to Tim, Phil and Richard (Sewell) for their help and assistance, bringing belongings to hospital, driving car etc.
I am not sure what happened as I was concussed and can't remember the incident, can remember the corner before. Someone said I went over the bars which was apparently quiete spectacular!
It's a pity as I was going fine (actually led the peleton for a while).
Dr Dave the bike is fine!
I could be out on the bike this week but I think I will leave it untill next week (apart from a gentle ride!! or 2)

Thats my old winter bike. Frame now broke and replaced by a blue quest.
