Steve
"The Club" being sued actually means the officials, the members of the committee and the event organiser being personally sued. If I thought for a minute that the Club was doing anything other than following best practice then I surely would not be an official. Not worth the risk of losing my house over, however remote the possibility.
Sorry to sound heavy, but that's the world we now live in.
If we are also looking to become a "GO RIDE" club and want to enjoy the benefits that brings, then running an event without insurance cover isnt the responsible approach BC are looking for, would you steer a junior rider towards a club that flouts the rules?
Its a shame the reliability ride has had to be cancelled but what we need to do is look into it further and if possible meet the criteria set next year and get the ride back on the calendar.
Hello there,
Malton Wheelers are thinking of organising a Reliability ride. I remember Paul cancelling last years ride; has insurance been "sorted" since last year. We understand that BC and CTC consider a reliability ride as a high risk. If this is still the case I really think Reliability Rides are now dead in the water!
Whoever is planning to organise your Reliability Ride should get in touch with Pete Sutton at BC Yorkshire Division (before they send off the Event Registration) regarding the Risk Assessment.
Apparently the good people in BC Yorkshire have a slightly more enlightened view of Reliabilities than they do in Manchester!
As for Cliftons Reliability - Just don't organise the Malton event on 7th Feb please Matt!
