Did the Yorkshire cyclocross event at Bingley along with Dave Cook as his introduction to racing in the mud, the going was so heavy both of us had to stop several times to clear the mud and leaves from round the brakes and forks, it got so bad that the wheels would not turn at times, I had a couple of spectacular crashes going downhill I will have to watch "youv'e been framed" for the next few weeks to see if anyone got it on video, however I wasn,t the only one, Iknow I will be nursing the sore ribs for the next few days.
The race lasted about 45 minutes and it took me nearly twice as long to get the bike and my kit clean when I got home.
All good fun though.
Also one of the organisers said there was a Clifton top left at one of the events a few weeks ago and he will be taking it to the North of England championships at Wakefield if the owner wants to collect it.

I had a 3-4hr steady ride in my training plan for Saturday, so once the dawn had lightened the fog from dark grey to muddy off-white, I pulled on an extra winter layer and headed out. It seemed a waste to go anywhere too picturesque since it would have been mostly invisible, so I headed for Goole, via Drax.
I really like these winter rides around unglamorous places; there's something about the quiet other-worldliness of the countryside and the bare brutishness of much of what we've built on it. And just spinning the pedals over and watching it all roll past. Sixty-odd miles, just under four hours, lovely and warm, and (apart from riding through floods near Naburn) I hadn't even got wet. Who could ask for more?

The MTBers ignored the gloomy forecasts yesterday and headed for the NW Moors for our monthly gathering.
10 of us followed a figure of 8 loop around Cap Cook's Monument, Roseberry Topping and Guisborough Forest before heading to the Cafe in Great Ayton to warm up. Conditions were muddy in places, bracing on the tops and quite technical (made worse by the slimey mud).
Good to see a mixture of regulars, not-so-regulars and new faces out. Special mention to Dan, crossing over from the Sat road rides, on his shiney new bike. I thought he was an experienced MTBer but he told us at the end it was his first ride on the new bike and first on a MTB for 15 years. Despite a couple of spills, it really didn't show.

A very enjoyable ride out with the MTB section yesterday. As Tullio (thank's for the comments!) noted it was my first ride with the group so not really sure what to expect. It was very muddy and slippery and unlike road cycling the downhills were more difficult than the uphills. I had four spills in total but no damage to me or bike except pride as Pete always seemed to be behind and liked to point the fact out!
Once I got home it took me an hour to hose the mud of all my clothing and bike but everything cleaned and the bike looks nearly like new again!
Will certainly be out for the next ride but now have a list of clothing I need as my roadie clothes weren't much good.

The H group went to Driffield on Saturday. I anticipated a relatively easy day but 'twas not to be. Thick fog on the Wolds combined with a nasty headwind (really!) meant that climbing Settrington Bank was not really very enjoyable at all. I derived some comfort from the fact that, for the first time ever, I detected some possibly slightly laboured breathing from my "climbing companion" Andrew G, which was nice! Thanks also to Dr D and Sean W for turning out on such a foul day. Journey home enlivened by a spot of tractor racing...
