As a finishing touch to the preparation (ahem) was wondering about a ride to Scarborough on Sunday... Its 105 miles or so depending where in York you live. Classic route out through Troutsdale and back via Flixton Wold. I'll say 0900 start from the Square at the moment, but could be persuaded to leave a little earlier to give a sporting chance of a daylight return?

I want to do this, but I've not done a 100+ mile run in ages, the worst I've done since been ill is 62 miles with 4500ft of ascent, 3500 in 27 miles, and I was pretty slow, I'd be worried about bonking.

Will, with your lack of riding and history of sore knees I'd suggest that 147 miles in the mid-winter mountains shouldn't be top of your list at the moment.

How about ridings yourself back in with something a little more "mainstream"?

I might try the intermediate ride (not due to performance) for the sake of my knees, I hate the thought of going backwards, but yes I know what you're going to say.

Hi Rob,

Planning on joining you for this Sundays leg test to the sea and back. Good call on getting some miles in before the Tan Hill (which i'm also planning on riding too).
Anytime from the square is good for me. I'm kind of hoping it's going to be a little warmer than this morning on the back lanes (but somehow I doubt it).
